Light and airy, this knit look cowl is the perfect project to use up that one special ball of lace weight luxury yarn. 

This crochet pattern calls for 1 ball 1 ball of Knit Picks® Aloft Super Kid Mohair Yarn [25 g (0.88 oz)/400 meters (246 yds) per ball 72% Super Kid Mohair 25% Silk] or comparable yarn, a 4.00 mm (G) crochet hook and a 3.50 mm (E) crochet hook. The cowl is worked in one piece from the bottom up. The completed cowl measures 25.4 cm (10”) wide and 22.9 cm (9”) in length. Please note that the size is approximate and will be affected by the gauge and the brand of wool.

This crochet pattern calls for the following stitches and techniques: Slip stitch, single crochet, double crochet, front post double crochet and back post double crochet. Although the pattern calls for simple crochet stitches, I've marked it as intermediate because of the type of yarn required.

new crochet pattern - cobblestone road infinity scarf by tara schreyer.

Skill Level: Easy

The textures of this scarf remind me of the old beautiful cobblestone roads meeting the paved roads of the modern world.

This well written pattern includes a chart and figure pictures to serve as visual aids to the written pattern. It is made up of the simple stitches of single crochet, half double crochet, and double crochet.

The pattern recommends using 705 yds/320 g of fingering weight yarn (2) but it would look beautiful in any yarn weight. I personally used Knit Picks Andean Treasure (100% Baby Alpaca) and a 5.00mm (H/8) crochet hook so it is lightweight and airy, yet warm.

Finished measurement (once blocked out): Approx 12" wide x 64" long (before joining ends)

This cowl has been in my brain for over a year and I'm happy to say it has finally come about.

how to crochet the loop stitch.

The "loop stitch", thus named because of the long loops that it creates, is a fun way to add texture and visual interest to your crochet project.

To crochet the loop stitch, insert the hook in next st as shown below. 

Wrap the yarn, front to back, over first and second finger as shown below. The yarn on your fingers become the loop. Yarn over and draw though a loop. 

Carefully remove fingers from the loop. Yarn over and draw through both loops on the hook.

This crochet pattern calls for ¾ of a ball of Patons® Classic Wool for felting [100 g (3.5 oz)/190 meters (210 yds) per ball, which is a worsted weight (4)]. You will also need a 3.50 mm (E) crochet hook, washable fiberfill, popcorn kernels (or filling of choice), a 38 gauge all purpose felting needle, scraps of black wool, and a yarn needle.

The pattern calls for the following stitches: sl st, sc, hdc, double crochet sc2tog, and loop stitch.

The finished puppy measures approximately 12.7 cm (5”) tall excluding the legs. Please note that size is approximate and will be affected by the gauge and the brand of wool.

This crochet pattern calls for Patons® Classic Wool for felting [100 g (3.5 oz)/190 meters (210 yds) per ball, which is a worsted weight (4)] in the following colours: 1/3 of a ball of Dark Grey Mix, 1/2 of a ball Natural Mix and scraps of black. You will also need a 3.50 mm (E) crochet hook, washable fiberfill, popcorn kernels (or filling of choice), a 38 gauge all purpose felting needle, a yarn needle, a 14 mm (.55”) bell (optional) and a bit of string to attach the bell.

It seems like I've been working on the crochet pattern for this little guy forever...

Now, all that's left is to assemble the woolly lamb shown below. 

Well...of course I will also have to take pictures of each step as I assemble him, which will then be followed by picture editing. Next, I will insert the figure pictures in the pattern, do a final tech edit, and then the pattern will be ready for publication. Soooo....there is still lots of work to be done, but don't despair! I'm getting very close, and I hope that you will be as excited as me when this crochet pattern finally goes live!

The first time that I had ever seen or heard of the Yarnit was at Knit City 2015, in Vancouver B.C. Intrigued by the display, I stopped to have a look and watch a quick demo. My first thought was, "interesting...yes...but do I really need to spend more money on a gadget that is just going to be housing another forgotten work in progress?"

The Yarnit

When Kate Sullivan, the inventor of the Yarnit, heard that I was a crochet designer and blogger she generously handed one over to me with the request that I write a review. I was immediately drawn to Kate, and not just because she gave me a free Yarnit, although that certainly scored her several "cool points"! What impressed me the most about Kate was her friendly, good business sense and the fact that she was willing to stand behind her product. Kate expressed her desire that I be 100% honest with my review even if it was negative. In fact, she seemed more interested in hearing any negatives as this would help her to improve the quality of her product, a product that she clearly believed in. It is that kind of humility and dedication that I respect, and love to see in a company.

First off, what is the Yarnit? Simply put, it is a clean, lightweight, portable home for your yarn.

I can't wait to see what they come up with!

This pattern was designed with the Canadian outdoor man in mind. 100% wool and cables make for a thick, warm fabric, and ear flaps ensure that the ears are not exposed to the cold.

This well written crochet pattern calls for 1/3 of a ball of Patons® Classic Wool [100 g (3.5 ounces)/192 meters (210 yards) per ball] (colour shown – Dark Grey Mix), 1 ball of Patons® Classic Wool (colour shown – Light Grey Marle), and a 4.00 mm (G) crochet hook. The beanie is worked from the bottom up. The beanie measures 48.3 cm (19”) in circumference, and 22.9 cm (9”) long (excluding the ear flaps). Ever since I first seen little, felted, balls with acorn tops on Etsy I've been dying to make some of my very own. Finally, this year, while visiting Vancouver for Knit City 2015, I found some adorable acorn caps. As soon as I got home I went to work on felting the autumn coloured balls, shown below, to glue into the caps. Are they not the sweetest thing?

Who knew that this quick little craft project would became the inspiration for my next crochet design.
