just for fun - time yourself against the world's fastest crocheter.

Lisa Gentry broke the Guinness World Record for the "Fastest Crocheter" on June 25, 2005 at a Michaels Craft store in Monroe, LA. She crocheted 853 trc = 5113 stitches in just 30 minutes which = 170 sts/min.

Just for fun I thought that I would give it a try...well...it seems that speed crocheting is not my calling. My personal best was 12 trc.

I would love to hear how others made out!

new crochet pattern - wrapped in lace shawl.

We would like to introduce you to our newest crochet design, the Wrapped in Lace Shawl by Kim Miller.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Sheer elegance describes this delicate triangle shawl. From row 4 until the edging the pattern is a simple 2 row repeat that is quick to memorize. The pretty beaded border adds a touch of glimmer and enhances the drape of the shawl. Despite the intricate look of the fine fabric the shawl is relatively simple to make and you will be surprised at how fast it actually works up.

This crochet pattern calls for 2 1/2 skeins of Knit Picks Gloss Lace yarn, but the pattern is flexible enough for you to experiment with your favorite yarns. To open up the stitches and to show off the pretty edging blocking is recommended.

The blocked shawl measures 70" across the top, and 52" along the sides, but because the shawl is worked from the top center outward the pattern is flexible enough for you to make any size. This detailed well written pattern includes written instructions as well as a chart.

new crochet pattern - rectangular decorative pillow cover.

Okay...so the name of this pillow is pretty boring, I know. I wanted to call it the "Height of Laziness" pillow but that wasn't very descriptive. The name "Height of Laziness" seemed appropriate because I needed to create a pillow cover for my home but was too busy (okay...lazy) to spend alot of time or effort. This was the outcome....I used double strands of thick fibers and the right combination of simple stitches to create this modern and stylish pillow cover! Simple is beautiful!

This pattern creates a pillow cover that measures 15" x 25" and fits a 14" x 24" pillow form beautifully. The pattern could be easily altered to fit a variety of pillow sizes.

more painted crochet...

A few weeks ago I featured a blog post called "this child of mine". The post was about Painted Crochet and I talked about the gorgeous hat that my daughter had made using this technique. Well, I loved the hat so much that I picked out my favorite colours and had her make one for me...years of diaper changes and sleepless nights paid off:) I absolutely love my hat and I wanted to share.
