Making Waves Bucket Bag by Kim Miller

How much fun would it be to crochet this fashionable, striped bucket bag? 

This versatile bag can be used as:

• a purse

• a craft/project bag

• a bag to take on your day at the beach

This crochet pattern is complete with instructions for the striped bag, the rope handle, and anchor. Plus, I've included a chart for the anchor, and I show you an easy way to add stripes without having to fasten off at the end of each round...leaving you with a ton of yarn ends to work in.

This detailed crochet pattern calls for 2 balls of Bernat® Handicrafter® 100% Cotton [50 g (1.75 oz)/73 meters (80 yds) per ball] in Classic Navy, 3½ balls of Bernat® Handicrafter® in Off White, and Scraps of Bernat® Handicrafter® in Red. You will also need a 4.00 mm (G) crochet hook (or size needed to obtain gauge), four 7/16” [11 mm (inner diameter)] eyelets, grommet tool and a yarn needle. This crochet pattern is complete with colour illustrations and directions on attaching the eyelets. 

The finished bag measures 22.9 cm (9”) high, and 22.9 cm (9”) in diameter. 

Please note that lining instructions are not included with the pattern, but you do choose to go with lining the basic shaping should make it both fun and easy.

A month or so ago, when I started working in the round with cotton stripes, I couldn't decide if I wanted to create a pattern for storage bins....or a bucket bag....so I created both :)

I was hoping to release the pattern for the Making Waves Bucket Bag this week, but time got away on me, so I should have the pattern up by early next week. In the meantime have a great weekend!!!

current project.

Lacy Shopping Bag by Goh Hui Lian.

I'm very pleased with how this bag is turning out! I am working with Nordic Montoya Beach which is a 100% Linen. I just started in on my second ball. The yarn has a pretty sheen and seems to be a good fit for the bag. I think that I will take the advice in the pattern and chose a light coloured lining to highlight the lace and the relief pattern.

day seven of 7 days - 7 unfinished projects.

This is day seven, the last day, in a seven day series :)

Not only did I get all 7 projects completed but I also managed to sneak in an extra project, so I'm doing a happy dance!

I finally lined the "Touch of Africa Shoulder Bag"!

I am almost embarrassed to admit it, but I released the crochet pattern for the "Touch of Africa Shoulder Bag" way back in August of 2010 and the bag has been sitting ever since just waiting to be lined. I wasn't sure if I would get this project done this week so I'm pretty excited and so is my daughter as she is the happy recipient.

I also finished the "Ladies Felted Chapeau"!

Ladies Felted Chapeau

On October 5th, 2011 I posted a felting tutorial and at the end of the tutorial I showed what the Ladies Felted Chapeau looked like after it was felted but there was still some finishing work to be done. At the time I was a little discouraged as I got so involved in the tutorial that I shrunk the hat a bit too much. I tried steaming it and stretching it but without a head form I really wasn't getting anywhere. I figured that I would finish as is and pass in on to someone with a smaller head, but after I added the cording and the top stitching I gently washed the hat in lukewarm water and I found that I was able stretch it while it was drying and now it fits perfect!

This stylish shoulder bag is first crocheted and then felted to produce a durable, fuzzy fabric. The entire bag is made using simple double crochet stitches and can be crocheted using 1, 2 or 3 colours. The hardest part will be deciding which colours to choose.

The crochet pattern calls for 3 ½ skeins of Berroco® Ultra Alpaca and includes loads of colour illustrations.

Finished bag measires 17" across when laid flat and 17" from bottom to the highest top edge excluding handle.
